PIANOS ON STATE
Pianos on State spontaneously reintroduces music and art into people’s everyday lives, as they go about their business, about their shopping. You don’t have to pass any test, you don’t have to have any qualifications, they’re there for everyone.
Art teaches us that you can change the pattern. A piano can be on the street. A stranger walking down the street next to you might have powers you didn’t expect. They might suddenly sit down at that piano and play Chopin’s Nocturne Opus 9 in E Flat major no. 2. And that is a hopeful feeling.
The pianos will be displayed this year October 1 - 21st, 2024 on designated pads along State Street with additional placements at Ensemble Theater, Stearn’s Warf, and the SB Airport for the public to play! Every year piano-painting at the Community Arts Workshop is a weekend of artists of all styles and stripes rubbing shoulders, trading tips and information, and making art together.
Over the last 15 years Pianos on State has attracted many artists coming together to paint pianos over a long weekend each fall. This year, we are celebrating 15 years of this collaborative public and visual arts program.
